Trains, traffic stop as man wanders tracks, hops onto 105 during rush hour

A man walking on the Metro Green Line tracks disrupted train service as well as traffic on the 105 Freeway during rush hour Friday morning. The shirtless, “unstable” man walked down the tracks and refused demands by police to climb back over the fence.

Green Line service was suspended in the area near the Long Beach Boulevard Station after the man was reported on the tracks just before 8 a.m., according to Metro. Parts of the 105 Freeway also were briefly closed as officers trailed the man on foot, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials said.

The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was “walking on the tracks, between the tracks, on the freeway and a couple of times jumped the fence and cut his hand,” said Deputy Rick Pedroza.

“He was unstable, so we had a hard time corralling him,” Pedroza said. “He didn’t comply with any of our requests to come over and meet, and ignored us and went the other way.”

Rick Jager, a Metro spokesman, said the man was reported to be off the tracks at 8:12 a.m., with normal Green Line service resuming shortly thereafter.
