Update: The Galaxy begin a 16-day international break after Thursday’s game, and they need a solid effort against Sporting Kansas City if they are to go into that break with momentum. The Galaxy’s nine-game unbeaten streak ended on the final play of Saturday’s game in Montreal but for this one they’ll be at home, where they are averaging better than two goals a game and have yet to lose this season. Both teams are missing key players: The Galaxy’s Gyasi Zardes and Kansas City’s Matt Besler and Graham Zusi are with the U.S. national team while Galaxy captain Robbie Keane is with Ireland, preparing for next week’s European Championships. But Giovani dos Santos passed up a chance to play with Mexico in the Copa America Centenario to stay with the Galaxy, with whom he has become arguably the hottest player in MLS Major League Soccer. Dos Santos has scored six times in his last seven games and has five assists over that span. When these teams met in Kansas City last month, Dos Santos’ score earned the Galaxy a 1-1 draw.
