The rush to possibly secure season tickets for the Rams’ 2016 season at the Coliseum resulted in requests that could fill the stadium and more.

The team announced Tuesday that more than 56,000 deposits for season tickets were received by Monday’s deadline.

The Rams accepted $100 deposits for a “priority opportunity” to purchase season tickets. Each deposit enables the purchase, if available, of a maximum of eight season tickets.

The team has not said how many season tickets will be sold for a stadium that seats 93,607, according to USC’s website. Sales will begin in the spring.

Kevin Demoff, the Rams’ executive vice president, has said that tickets for the 2016 season would be priced comparably to last season in St. Louis. Season tickets ranged from $300 to $1,750.

“We are inspired by how enthusiastically NFL fans in Southern California have responded to the return of the Los Angeles Rams,” Demoff said Tuesday in a statement. “We will reward their passion by providing a terrific game day experience at both the Coliseum this fall and ultimately in Inglewood. We can’t wait to welcome our fans on Sundays and become an integral part of the Greater Los Angeles community.”

The Rams are expected to play the next three seasons at the Coliseum before moving into a new Inglewood Stadium in 2019.

Placing a deposit for the 2016 season guarantees a spot on the season-ticket wait list for the Inglewood stadium, the team has said. It also has said that people who placed deposits would get access to single-game tickets before the public, priority access to season tickets in 2017 and ‘18, and access to off-season team events.

Also Tuesday, the Rams signed Kain Colter, a former Northwestern quarterback who was a wide receiver on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad in 2014. In college, Colter was at the forefront of a move to unionize the Northwestern football team and college athletes.

“Thanks to the Los Angeles Rams for giving me another opportunity to play football and earn a spot on the team. #Blessed” Colter posted on Instagram.
