Boys’ basketball: Alemany wraps up Mission League title behind Shacquille Dawkins

There must be a little reward for loyalty. If so, Shacquille Dawkins of Alemany has earned one. A four-year starter, Dawkins has saved his best for last. He had 29 points, five assists and five steals in helping the Warriors defeat St. Francis, 88-59, on Wednesday night. Alemany (21-6, 11-1) won its second consecutive Mission League championship.

Earnie Sears had 28 points and 10 rebounds and Brandon Davis added 15 points. Crespi finished in second place after a 73-62 win over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame. De’Anthony Melton scored 27 points and Brandon Williams had 14. Harvard-Westlake defeated Chaminade, 55-49. Cassius Stanley had 16 points and Wolfgang Novogratz and Ali Iken 14 points apiece.

In the Del Rey League, Bishop Montgomery finished the regular season at 24-1 after a 60-52 win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart. David Singleton scored 19 points. Gardena Serra defeated Cathedral, 83-72. Sophomore Kobe Smith scored 31 points.

In the Hacienda League, Chino defeated Diamond Ranch, 63-57, ending Diamond Ranch’s 13-game win streak. Diamond Ranch was missing three starters. Roman Silva finished with 19 points. Diamond Ranch faces Los Altos for the league title on Friday. Jarod Lucas scored 29 points in Los Altos’ 92-69 win over West Covina.

Sophomore Riley Battin scored 31 points in Oak Park’s 64-55 win over Simi Valley. Kaden Young had 31 points for Simi Valley, including six threes. Camarillo defeated Moorpark, 63-62, on a three-pointer by Justin Nguyen.

Rancho Mirage improved to 26-0 and 11-0 in the De Anza League with a 103-43 win over Yucca Valley. Charles Neal scored 26 points and Daryn Evans scored 20 points.
