John Barnes, Dick Bruich, Scott Muckey among Southern Section Hall of Fame inductees

Nine educators and former coaches will be part of the 33rd class of inductees in the Southern Section Hall of Fame on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at The Grand in Long Beach.

Among the inductees is John Barnes, who spent 41 years in education, including 36 years as football coach at Los Alamitos. His teams won four Southern Section championships.

Dick Bruich spent 43 years in education. He was football coach at Cantwell, Piux X, St. Paul and Fontana. He won 20 league titles and four Southern Section titles.

Scott Muckey, the former Crespi baseball coach and who passed away recently, had 39 years of teaching and coaching. He was the head coach at Crespi starting in 1987 and won two section titles.

Other honorees include football coach Bob Burt; track coach Dave Kurrie; softball coach Shelly Luth; football coach Mike Marrujo; football-golf coach John Stoney; basketball coach George Terzian.

The Southern Section will also honor seven individuals with distinguished service awards.

They include former City Section commissioner Hal Harkness; former Hart and El Dorado football coach Carl Sweet; Don Knabe; Toki Ochi; Steve Simpson; Reggie Thomkins.
