Gordo, the dog hit during wild police pursuit, goes home

Share

Gordo, the white poodle-mix who was run over during a dramatic police pursuit captured on live television, is now resting at home after being released from a local animal hospital -- and is eating plenty of El Pollo Loco.

Gordo captured hearts last week when the small dog was struck by a van during a police chase. The dog had gotten loose from its residence and wandered into the street as the police pursuit was unfolding.

It’s been a tough road back for Gordo.

The dog’s body was covered in stitches and he had trouble walking after being hit. Veterinarians feared Gordo might lose one of his legs.

But Santos Son is just grateful that his lovable dog, who accompanied him to work every day, is now back home. He plans to spoil Gordo with its favorite treat: El Pollo Loco, KTLA reported.

“I am happy today that my dog is coming back home,” Son said Tuesday night.

Donations from across the county for Gordo’s care poured into Access Specialty Animal Hospital in Los Angeles to help pay for all of Gordo treatment, which cost about $12,000.

But Gordo appears to have bounced back after his six-day hospital stint, hospital representative Shannon Brown said.

Doctors hope to work with Gordo on physical therapy to gain full use of his legs.

But in the meantime, any remaining donations will be offered to the Culver City Police Department’s K-9 Unit.

“Thank you very much everybody for helping my dog,” Gordo’s owner said.
