Woman arrested in Santa Ana nightclub beating; victim on life support
Santa Ana police said they have made an arrest in connection with the weekend beating of a 23-year-old woman who was waiting outside a popular nightclub when she was hit and stomped into unconsciousness.
A woman – described only as being in her 20s – was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and causing great bodily harm, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, a spokesman for the Santa Ana Police Department.
He said officers are continuing to search for two other women and two men in the beating outside the Crosby, a popular nightspot in the city’s historic district.
Bertagna said the name of the arrested woman would not be released until the others are apprehended.
The victim, whom police would not identify, remains on life support.
But friends and family identified the young woman as Kim Pham, a Westminster resident.
Pham’s sister said on her Facebook page that “Our beloved sister, daughter and friend Kim (Annie) Pham passed away on Sunday … Kim is currently on life support because her wishes had always been to help others by being an organ donor.”
Bertagna said detectives made the arrest using video taken by bystanders outside the lounge early Saturday morning. They are also reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses.
The suspects and victim, he said, were waiting in line to get into the Crosby when an argument broke out and escalated into a fight.
“She was kicked and punched to the point that she was unconscious when officers arrived,” Bertagna said.
