Singer ‘Let Go’ and got a bundle

Times Staff Writer

The peerless, fearless Avril Lavigne has done what others only dream of: No, not the part about snagging eight Grammy nominations on your first album when you are still in your teens. Rather, it’s the part where you list your Beverly Hills-area mansion and somebody gives you a cash offer of $5.2 million just 36 days later. Tears of joy may have even run down her 23-year-old face, trademark thick black eyeliner and all; they certainly would have mine.

Lavigne’s five-bedroom, six-bathroom house has 6,864 square feet. It is “nestled serenely,” says the listing, on a private lot in exclusive Mulholland Estates. There are tropical gardens with a pool, spa and a north-south tennis court. The kitchen is described as gourmet and opens to the family room on one side and an attached butler’s pantry and formal dining room on the other. There is a library.

The house was listed at $5.8 million, but when cash comes calling, it behooves one to listen.

Speaking of listening, many people apparently do: Lavigne’s debut album, “Let Go,” went platinum six times and included the song “Complicated,” which earned the singer five Grammy nominations.

In July 2006, she married Deryck Whibley, guitarist and lead vocalist with pop punk band Sum 41.

Mauricio Umansky of Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills, was the listing agent, and Alan Parness of Rodeo Realty Inc. in Studio City represented the buyer, according to the Multiple Listing Service, Combined Los Angeles-Westside (CLAW).

For sitcom alum, a lot of taxi fare

“Who’s the Boss?” star Tony Danza may have learned it wasn’t he in this real estate market. Not to worry, big guy, it’s just the market.

Danza, 57, initially listed his 6,778-square-foot Sherman Oaks house at $6.15 million. It was subsequently dropped to $5.65 million. The MLS shows a sale price of $5 million.

The house has five bedrooms, 5 1/2 bathrooms and sits on 2.3 acres in the exclusive Longridge Estates area. Cape Cod in style, the home underwent a substantial remodel in 1997. The gated property includes a guesthouse, tennis court, batting cage and pool-spa.

Danza was part of the ensemble cast of TV’s “Taxi” from 1978 to 1983 and then starred in the sitcom “Who’s the Boss?” from 1984 to 1992. He owns a 1,392-square-foot beachfront home in Malibu, according to public records.

Fisher seeks to net right offer

Sometimes the goddess of common sense has to give us a smack upside the head. Said goddess must have recently visited actress Joely Fisher, who just listed her Encino house again, this time at $3,295,000. It was listed last summer for at least $1 million more.

The compound is at the end of a long circular driveway and sits on a three-fourths-acre lot with views. There is a lagoon pool, pool house, sports court and rolling lawns. There also is a detached state-of-the-art THX home theater.

The one-level Zen Craftsman was built in 1955 and completely rebuilt in 2005. It has four bedrooms and 6 1/2 bathrooms in 4,500 square feet. The living room has stone floors and a wood-beamed ceiling.

Fisher, the 40-year-old daughter of Connie Stevens and Eddie Fisher, has appeared on “Desperate Housewives” as Felicity Huffman’s uptight boss. She plays Joy Stark opposite Brad Garrett on “ ‘Til Death.” And from 1994 to 1998, she was a regular on “Ellen,” playing Paige Clark. She is married to director-producer Christopher Duddy and they have two children.

Jordan B. Cohen of Re/Max Olson & Associates has the listing.

Champ to give up a (home) title

Lakers assistant coach Jim Cleamons may be running out of fingers for championship rings. Having eight and going for the ninth is pretty spectacular, but the true brass ring may come if he can sell the Manhattan Beach home he just listed for sale at $1,399,000.

The 2,042-square-foot house has three bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms and formal living and dining rooms. It was built in 1987 but recently remodeled. The kitchen cabinets were re-stained, a Thermador double convection oven was installed, and a Bosch dishwasher and a Kohler sink were added. The home has plantation shutters throughout, hardwood floors, a custom fireplace and customized closets. There are golf course views from the kitchen and patio.

The home is in a guard-gated enclave that is favored by many professional athletes because of its privacy. The community features a pool, five spas and a golf course.

Cleamons, 58, won four titles in the mid-1990s with the Chicago Bulls as an assistant on Coach Phil Jackson’s staff and an additional three titles from 2000 to 2003 with Jackson and the Lakers.

He also was a member of the Lakers’ 1971-72 championship squad that included Wilt Chamberlain, Jerry West, Gail Goodrich, Jim McMillian and Pat Riley. A first-round draft pick from Ohio State, he played point guard.

Ed Kaminsky of SportsStar Relocation, Manhattan Beach, had the listing.

Writer leases out her Bel-Air plot

That bestseller-novel-producing machine known as Jackie Collins has just leased out a Bel-Air area property she owns for $20,000 a month.

The 3,795-square-foot, one-story house was built in 1963. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom view house has a new tumbled-marble kitchen with a Viking range and two new bedroom suites. The master suite has a large walk-in closet and a spa tub and steam shower. Most rooms open to a private yard, which has a pool.

Collins has owned the house since March 2002, according to public records. She was married to producer Oscar Lerman for more than 25 years until his death in 1992 and has three children. Actress Joan Collins is her sister.

Jackie Collins, now 70, started writing as a kid, making up steamy stories and charging her schoolmates to read them. Although she’s had more than 20 bestselling novels, she is perhaps best known for “Hollywood Wives” (1985). More than 400 million copies of her books have been sold in more than 40 countries.
