AT THE PLATE: Bill Hall, trying to win a bench job, drove in four runs with a pair of two-run doubles. Mark Trumbo, who had no triples after the All-Star game last season, tripled and scored a run.

ON THE MOUND: The Angels used eight pitchers, none of whom figure to break camp with the team. A.J. Schugel, who had a 2.89 earned-run average at double-A Arkansas last season, started and gave up hits to the first three batters, including a home run to Gerardo Parra.

EXTRA BASES: The Angels face championship-caliber pitching in the next two games, with Ryan Vogelsong starting for the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday and Clayton Kershaw starting for the Dodgers on Thursday.
