El Camino Real defeats Banning, 2-1, in City Section Division I softball final

There was drama and excitement Saturday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The City Section Division I softball final between El Camino Real and Banning was tied in the bottom of the 10th inning.

That’s when Annie Moore of El Camino Real delivered a game-winning RBI double to score Madi Gilmore and give the Conquistadores a 2-1 victory.

It was the 15th City softball title for El Camino Real and the first for rookie Coach Jodi Borenstein.

Pitcher Emma Jackson threw all 10 innings for El Camino Real, scattering 10 hits while striking out six. Banning’s Topanga Zamora tied the score with an RBI in the sixth.

It was quite a day for El Camino Real, which also won the City Division I boys’ volleyball championship in five sets over Palisades.

In Division II softball, Chavez won its second consecutive title with a 4-0 win with over South East.

In Division III, Van Nuys defeated Washington, 6-1.

In Division IV, View Park Prep, in its first year fielding a team, won the City title with a 5-2 win over Vaughn. Janell Brown struck out 14.
