Baseball: Huntington Beach rolls to 7-0 win over Newport Harbor

Huntington Beach, ranked No. 1 by The Times in preseason rankings, is beginning to play like a top team.

The Oilers completed a three-game sweep in Sunset League play with a 7-0 win over Newport Harbor on Saturday. Logan Pouelsen threw five shutout innings and Daniel Amaral went three for three.

Gardena Serra defeated Alemany, 5-2, three hits from Ruben Cardenas. CJ Fernandezees threw a complete game for Serra.

Birmingham defeated Narbonne, 12-2, in six innings. Ivan Lomeli went three for three and and Ryan Mendoza added three hits and four RBI.

Marshall defeated Cleveland, 9-3. Isaiah Quintana threw a complete game. Kevin Martinez hit a home run and had four RBI.

North Hollywood defeated Bell, 7-1. Alex Sepulveda threw a complete game. El Camino Real defeated Sylmar, 3-0. Matt Malconian threw a four-hitter. James Terrazas and Daniel Moreno had two hits apiece. Santa Barbara defeated Chatsworth, 4-3.

Granada Hills Kennedy defeated Newbury Park, 18-10. Estevan Rodriguez and Chris Sandberg each had three hits. Jeff Tincher led Newbury Park with three hits.

Long Beach Wilson defeated Arlington, 3-1. Zach Pettway threw five innings and also contributed two hits.

Victor Salazar and Jesus Salazar each had two hits in Gahr's 7-4 win over El Segundo.

Banning scored five runs in the top of the seventh and defeated Taft, 6-5. Gabe Ruiz knocked in the go-ahead run.

Oaks Christian defeated Simi Valley, 5-1. Dane Morrow threw a complete-game seven-hitter.

Ayala defeated Mayfair, 7-3. Tim Nelson contributed three hits and two RBI.

Granada Hills defeated Culver City, 7-5. James Bacon and Dalton Lock each had two hits and two RBI.

Chaminade defeated South Torrance, 3-2, on a walk-off single by Blake Rutherford.

Westlake defeated Sun Valley Poly, 11-2. Grant Buncker hit a home run.

Verdugo Hills defeated San Fernando, 1-0. Mauricio Mena threw a four-hitter. Matt Zavala had an RBI double.
