Baseball: Johnny Carr comes through in 12th inning for Santa Margarita

It took 12 innings to decide the opening game of the National Classic between Agoura and Santa Margarita. Johnny Carr finally ended it with a walk-off hit, his third of the game, give Santa Margarita a 2-1 victory over the Chargers.

Alec Telles, Brett Dinsmore and Konnor Kwok combined to limit Agoura to one run. Santa Margarita advances to play El Toro at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Esperanza. El Toro defeated Bishop Amat, 3-1. Bradley Spooner struck out five and threw a complete game. Erik Tolman had two hits.

Esperanza defeated Cottonwood, 3-1. Blake Schriever threw 1 2/3 innings of shutout relief, strikign out two. Palm Desert upset Cypress, 5-2. Jonathan Mejia had two hits and two RBIs. Gahr defeated Elk Grove, 8-4, and will play Esperanza at 12:30 p.m. at Esperanza.

Servite held on for a 3-2 win over El Dorado. Mark Woinarowicz threw well in relief. Servite will play Mountain Ridge at 12:30 p.m. at El Dorado.

Mission Viejo 3, Murrieta Mesa 1: Tanner Bibee threw a complete game and Alex Jemal hit a home run.

Capistrano Valley 6, Nevada McQueen 1: Jeremy Taylor struck out 14 to lead the Cougars.

Aliso Niguel 6, Glendora 5: Zach Bowman had an RBI single for Aliso Niguel.

Verrado 6, Santa Barbara 4: In Arizona, Kevin Gowdy took the loss. Gowdy also had a home run.

Canyon Springs 1, Tesoro 0: Johnny Jacobsen allowed four hits in the complete-game victory.

Xaverian 19, Simi Valley 18: The Pioneers gave up eight runs in the fifth and eight more in the sixth in losing in Arizona. Among the hitters, Andrew Devine had three hits and two RBIs, Cal Hodgins had two hits and three RBIS and Turner Nelson had two hits and three RBIs. Owen Sharts had three hits and four RBIs. Hodgins and Nelson had home runs.

Valencia 8, Santa Monica 7: Valencia (12-2) rallied from a 7-0 deficit to win. Trace Eldridge threw three shutout innings of relief.

Chatsworth 8, Artesia 0: Josh Garcia threw six shutout innings.
