Boys’ basketball: Chibueze Jacobs delivers game-winning basket for Sherman Oaks Notre Dame

Huskies put on a show in 102-54 victory

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame was taking a chance four years ago when it hired unsung 26-year-old Vince Oliver, a Loyola assistant. Now the Knights are headed to the Southern Section Division 4AA championship game after a 54-52 victory over Mission League rival Harvard-Westlake.

Chibueze Jacobs made a game-winning shot with three seconds left and finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds. It was Notre Dame’s third win this season over the Wolverines. They will play the winner of Saturday’s game between Gardena Serra and San Gabriel Academy.

Another Mission League team, Chaminade, pulled off the upset of the night, handing unbeaten Rancho Mirage its first defeat in 31 games, 64-58, in a 3A semifinal. Freshman Makur Maker scored 14 points, had 13 rebounds and four blocks. Charles Neal had 23 points for Rancho Mirage. Roman Silva had 19 points and 19 rebounds to lift Diamond Ranch past Beverly Hills, 48-45.

In the Open Division, LiAngelo Ball scored 34 points, Lonzo Ball 25 and Eli Scott 23 in Chino Hills’ 102-54 rout of Mater Dei. Sierra Canyon upset No. 2-seeded Bishop Montgomery, 78-69. Deveral Ramsey scored 20 points.

In consolation games, Crespi defeated Inglewood, 69-68. De’Anthony Melton scored 26 points. Brandon Williams made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left. Shacquille Dawkins scored 27 points in Alemany’s 72-64 overtime win over Damien. Redondo defeated Compton, 77-59. Wesley Gilbert had 18 points.

In 1A, Jonah Mathews scored 33 points in Santa Monica’s 68-45 win over Burroughs.

Oak Park advanced to the 3AA final with a 70-33 win over Buena Park. Riley Battin had 27 points and 11 rebounds.

In 2AA, Ayala defeated Loyola, 71-65, and will face Edison in the final.

Santa Barbara earned its first final spot since 1991 with a 62-57 win over La Mirada in Division 2A and will face Lynwood. Bolden Brace scored 19 points.

In 4A, Viewpoint knocked off Crean Lutheran, 63-52. Aram Arslanian and Michael Okparaocha each had 20 points. Viewpoint will face La Salle in the final. La Salle defeated Campbell Hall, 69-68. Jordan Cohen had 32 points for Campbell Hall. Johnny Knox had 21 points and AJ Kobian had 20 for La Salle, which made it to the final in the first year of Coach Michael Lynch.

In 5AA, Flintridge Prep pulled out a 70-67 overtime win over Saddleback Valley Christian. The Rebels rallied from a 47-34 fourth-quarter deficit. Andrew Tsangeos scored 28 points and Dante Fregoso 23.
