Boys’ basketball: Crespi wins its 20th in a row to assume first place in Mission League

It seems so long ago that Crespi began the season with a stunning loss to Peninsula. The Celts apparently learned a valuable lesson, because they haven’t lost since.

De’Anthony Melton scored 25 points, Brandon Williams had 15 and Taj Regans 13 points to lead Crespi past Alemany, 79-59 for the Celts’ 20th consecutive victory. Crespi moved into sole possession of first place in the Mission League at 6-0. Shacquille Dawkins scored 28 points for Alemany (15-6, 5-1).

Former Chaminade Coach Todd Wolfson guided St. Francis to a 48-44 victory over the Eagles, causing St. Francis fans to storm the court. It was St. Francis’ first home victory in two years. Malakhi Jensen had 13 points. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame defeated Loyola, 53-46. Chibueze Jacobs scored 23 points.

In the Trinity League, Orange Lutheran defeated Santa Margarita, 62-61. Joe Riley made a three with 2.5 seconds left for the victory. Riley finished with 15 points, along with Zac Jervis.

Mater Dei rallied for a 65-56 win over St. John Bosco, 65-56. Spencer Freedman scored 26 points, including 17 in the fourth quarter. Harrison Butler added 18. The Monarchs played without MJ Cage. JJ Watson scored 23 points for St. John Bosco, which held a one-point lead with three minutes left before Watson fouled out. JSerra defeated Servite, 66-54.

No. 1 Chino Hills rolled to a 92-65 win over Damien. Lonzo Ball had 32 points. Bryce Peters scored 31 for Damien. Etiwanda defeated Rancho Cucamonga, 51-49.

Redondo defeated Palos Verdes, 77-28.

Santa Monica (17-2, 4-0) took over first place in the Ocean League with a 68-51 win over Beverly Hills. Daniel Schreier had 24 points and Jonah Mathews 19.

In the Del Rey League, Gardena Serra defeated St. Bernard, 73-65. Cantwell-Sacred Heart defeated Cathedral, 65-62. Luka Radovic had 21 points and 15 rebounds.

Calabasas defeated Westlake, 67-41. Ryan Murphy scored 26 points. Oak Park defeated Simi Valley, 64-60. Riley Battin had 23 points and 23 rebounds.

Village Christian pulled out a 77-71 overtime win over Heritage Christian. Josh Caston scored 36 points, including 32 in the second half. Jalen Riley added 22 points.

Rancho Mirage improved to 20-0 with a 101-38 win over Big Bear. Koby Alvarez scored 20 points. Charles Neal had 24 points and 13 assists.

Freshman Jarod Lucas scored 34 points in Los Altos’ 108-62 win over West Covina.

Ayala defeated South Hills, 89-34.

Los Alamitos defeated Huntington Beach, 64-63. Eyassu Worku scored 22 points.

Burroughs defeated Burbank, 59-50, in the Pacific League. Steven Hubbell scored 14 points. Crescenta Valley defeated Arcadia, 71-39. Glendale defeated Hoover, 76-63. Pasadena defeated Muir, 59-59.

In the Foothill League, Canyon defeated West Ranch, 63-50. Hart moved into first place with a 66-51 win over Golden Valley. Valencia defeated Saugus, 63-54.

Santa Barbara improved to 21-1 with a 60-53 win over Ventura. Nick Busch had 23 points and Brandon Brace 20.

St. Bonaventure defeated Santa Paula, 58-38. Thomas Frank had 12 points and 15 rebounds.

San Marino defeated Blair, 71-59. Alex Cate scored 22 points.

In the Golden League, Highland defeated Antelope Valley, 81-50. Deshay Gipson had 20 points and Michael Brandon 17. Highland is 8-0 in league.
