World Baseball Classic opens; U.S. to start March 8
The World Baseball Classic opened play late Friday night with Australia playing Chinese Taipei at Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium in Taichung, Taiwan.
In games Saturday, Japan hosts Brazil and Cuba plays Brazil at Fukuoka, Japan, while South Korea and the Netherlands play in Taichung.
The United States opens play March 8 against Mexico at Chase Field in Phoenix. Also in that pool are Italy and Canada.
The championship game will be played March 19 at AT&T; Park in San Francisco.
