at Notre Dame 21, San Diego State 13: Jimmy Clausen threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate moments after the Fighting Irish (1-0) forced the Aztecs (0-2) to fumble into the end zone at South Bend, Ind. With San Diego State ahead, 13-7, early in the fourth quarter, Brandon Sullivan was inches away from a four-yard touchdown run. But safety David Bruton jarred the ball loose and recovered it. Clausen completed all five of his passes for 76 yards as Notre Dame took the lead for good with 9:43 remaining. Clausen threw a six-yard touchdown pass to David Grimes with 2:08 left.

at Southern Methodist 47, Texas State 36: Bo Levi Mitchell threw five touchdown passes at Dallas and the Mustangs (1-1) ended a losing streak at 11 games and made Coach June Jones a winner in his first home game.

Rice 42, at Memphis 35: Chris Jammer returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown with 11 seconds left to lift the Owls (2-0, 2-0 Conference USA) over the Tigers (0-2, 0-1) at Memphis, Tenn.

New Hampshire 28, at Army 10: John Clements returned a kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown and Hugo Souza ran 22 yards with a fumble for another score for the Wildcats (1-0) at West Point, N.Y. Army is 0-2.

Tulsa 56, at North Texas 26: David Johnson threw six touchdown passes and ran for another score for the Golden Hurricane (2-0) at Denton, Texas.

Western Kentucky 37, at Eastern Kentucky 13: Tyrell Hayden ran for 98 yards and a touchdown, and the Hilltoppers (1-1) won at Richmond, Ky.

at Western Michigan 29, Northern Illinois 26: Tim Hiller ran for a touchdown and threw for another in a 3:06 span of the fourth quarter, leading the Broncos (1-1, 1-0 Mid-American) past the Huskies (0-2, 0-1) at Kalamazoo. Hiller completed 21 of 30 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns.

at Arkansas State 83, Texas Southern 10: Corey Leonard threw four touchdown passes at Jonesboro, and the Red Wolves (2-0) scored the second-most points in their history, behind only a 101-point effort against Central Arkansas in 1917. Texas Southern fell to 0-2.

at Florida Atlantic 49, Alabama Birmingham 34: Rusty Smith threw three touchdown passes and Charles Pierre ran for two touchdowns as the Owls (1-1) won at Fort Lauderdale. Joe Webb threw two touchdown passes for the Blazers (0-2).
