Indians’ win over Cubs in Game 1 of the World Series garners strong ratings for Fox
Fox joined the Cleveland Indians as big winners from Game 1 of the World Series.
The network’s Tuesday night broadcast of Cleveland’s 6-0 win over the Chicago Cubs drew an overnight rating of 12.6 and a share of 21.
That’s up 20% from the 10.5/18 overnight rating/share of Game 1 between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals last year and up 58% from the 8.0/13 of Game 1 between the Royals and San Francisco Giants in 2014.
In the Cleveland/Akron area, the Indians’ blowout victory drew a 46.5 overnight rating; in Chicago, the game drew a 34.1.
Ratings are a measure of the percentage of all homes with TVs that are tuned in to a program; shares show the percentage of only the TVs on at the time that were tuned in to a program.
The two teams involved this year provide compelling story lines. The Cubs haven’t been to a World Series since 1945 and haven’t won it all since 1908. The Indians are looking for their first championship since 1948 but the city’s second in just a few months, following the Cavaliers’ NBA title this summer.
