The bar, even if it is a slotted one, has been set.

Carson Wentz’s signing with the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday put the Rams and quarterback Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, on the clock for finalizing a deal.

Wentz, the No. 2 selection, reportedly received a four-year, $26.7-million contract that includes a $17.6-million signing bonus.

“We’re in constant contact with his representatives right now,” Rams Coach Jeff Fisher said Thursday when asked whether there was a timeline for signing Goff. “It’s not a big issue.”

Fisher has coached the Rams since 2012, and he said “we’re one of the later teams” in announcing the signing of their draft picks.

“It’s not a difficult process,” he said.

The Rams, under Fisher, put all of their rookies through an orientation that includes financial planning seminars before they sign contracts.

“It will happen in time,” he said of Goff.

The last time the Rams selected a quarterback with the first pick in the draft was 2010, when they signed Sam Bradford to a six-year, $78-million contract. Bradford did not sign until the eve of training camp in July.

That was the last year before a new collective bargaining agreement that instituted a rookie salary system.

Last year, quarterback Jameis Winston was selected No. 1 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The day after the draft, he signed a four-year, $25.4-million deal that included a $16.6-million signing bonus.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota, the No. 2 pick by the Tennessee Titans last year, signed a four-year, $24.2-million contract that included a $15.9-million signing bonus. Mariota did not sign until nine days before the start of training camp.

Rams running back Todd Gurley, who was selected with the 10th pick in last year’s draft, signed his rookie contract about 45 days after he was selected. That was consistent with previous Rams first-round picks Aaron Donald, Tavon Austin, Alec Ogletree and Michael Brockers, all of whom signed in June after they were drafted.
