Clippers rookie Reggie Bullock happy to be on team
Reggie Bullock already was familiar with two of the Clippers’ top people – new Clippers Coach Doc Rivers and All-Star guard Chris Paul.
Now Bullock will play for Rivers and with Paul, something Bullock was excited to talk about when he was introduced to the media Monday.
The 6-foot-7 Bullock was drafted in the first round (25th overall) by the Clippers during last month’s draft.
He called Rivers, who also is the Clippers’ senior vice president of basketball operations, one of the best coaches in the NBA.
“I’m just going to play my game,” Bullock said. “They’ve seen so much film on me that they know what I’m capable of doing, which is shooting the ball and defending. So I’m just going to try to be hectic on defense and try to knock down shots when they come to me.”
When Bullock played at North Carolina, he played against Rivers’ son, Austin Rivers, when he was at Duke, for one season. Doc Rivers went to several of those games when Bullock and Austin met, which gave the Clippers’ coach an idea of what Bullock could do.
“We love his shot,” Rivers said. “We love his size. Shooting in our league is huge. He can do that. He can do more than that. I think you’ll be surprised with his defense.”
Bullock played on Paul’s 15-and-under AAU team in North Carolina, and the two have been friends since.
“He was a great person in my life,” said Bullock, who last season averaged 13.9 points on 48.3% shooting, including 43.6% from three-point range. “He helped me throughout this whole process, through training, traveling around to teams.”
