Clippers Coach Doc Rivers gave a strong indication Tuesday that Los Angeles will be signing free-agent forward Hedo Turkoglu soon.

Rivers was asked at practice if he could see the Clippers signing Turkoglu to a contract.

“We could, yeah,” Rivers said. “We’re looking at him strong. I can say that much”

The Clippers have a 15-man roster and would have to waive a player before they could sign Turkoglu, but the deal could be done as soon as Wednesday or Thursday, the day the Clippers leave for a seven-game road trip.

The most likely candidates to be let go would be point guards Maalik Wyans and Darius Morris, both of him are playing under 10-day contracts.

Turkoglu worked out for Rivers and the Clippers last Thursday at the team’s practice facility in Playa Vista and was impressive.

The 6-foot-10 Turkoglu averaged 11.9 points and 3.1 assists over a 12-plus NBA career.

The Orlando Magic had told Turkoglu to stay away from the team this season, finally waving him Jan. 3.

Turkoglu played in just 11 games last season with the Magic because of injuries and a 20-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs.
