Francisco Rodriguez arrested for domestic violence last month

Former Angels star and current Milwaukee Brewers reliever Francisco Rodriguez was arrested in September on a domestic violence complaint that involved his girlfriend, a prosecuter said Saturday.

Rodriguez has not yet been charged and any charges that might occur will be misdemanors, according to an email sent by Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel.

Deputies responded to a 911 call from Rodriguez’s girlfriend, with whom he lives inWales, Wis., along with their child, Schimel said. He added that the pitcher was arrested, booked and released on bond.

Rodriguez is accused of “physical abuse,” according to Schimel, who said he can’t comment further because no charges have been filed.

The Venezuelan pitcher made his major league debut for the Angels in September 2002 and went on to become a postseason sensation, going 5-1 in relief appearances as the team went on to claim the World Series championship.

“K-Rod” eventually became the Angels’ closer and led the American League in saves three times, setting the MLB single-season record in 2008 with 62 saves.

The next year Rodriguez signed with the New York Mets as a free agent. In 2010 he pleaded guilty to attempted assault after allegedly attacking his girlfriend’s father after a Mets game and was sent to anger management classes.
