Galaxy forward Robbie Keane on Thursday was named Major League Soccer’s player of the month for August.

The 33-year-old Galaxy captain had five goals and two assists in four MLS games last month, in which the Galaxy was unbeaten with a 3-0-1 record.

Keane’s first three goals came Aug. 17 when his hat trick led the Galaxy to a 4-2 win over Western Conference leader Real Salt Lake.

Two weeks later Keane scored two more goals as the Galaxy cruised to a 3-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.

Keane will miss this Saturday’s game against the Colorado Rapids at StubHub Center in Carson because he’s playing with the Irish national team in World Cup qualifying matches.

For the same reason, the Galaxy also will be without forward Landon Donovan and defender Omar Gonzalez, who are with the U.S. team, and goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, who’s with Panama.
