Jack Clark has asked that a defamation lawsuit filed against him by Angels slugger Albert Pujols be dismissed because the lawsuit fails to make the case that Pujols was defamed.

In August, Clark had said that Pujols had used performance-enhancing drugs, an allegation that Pujols denies. Clark, hosting a radio show at the time, said, “I know for a fact he was. The trainer who worked with him, threw him batting practice from Kansas City, that worked him out every day, basically told me that’s what he did.”

Clark based his accusation on conversations he said he had with Chris Mihlfeld, Pujols’ former personal trainer.

In his lawsuit, Pujols says that the accusations damaged his reputation and caused him to suffer “personal humiliation, mental anguish and anxiety.”
