Galaxy forward Robbie Keane named MLS Player of the Week
Galaxy forward Robbie Keane was named Major League Soccer’s player of the week Monday after he scored two goals Saturday.
Keane’s goals led the Galaxy to a 3-1 victory over the Portland Timbers at StubHub Center.
In the 73rd minute, Keane got behind the Portland defense, took a pass from Landon Donovan and headed the ball into the net from inside the six-yard box for his first score.
Then Keane converted a penalty kick from 27 yards in the 85th minute, lining the ball past Timbers goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.
The two scores gave Keane a team-leading 12 goals for the season.
The Galaxy next plays the San Jose Earthquakes in the latest round of their so-called “California Clasico” matchup on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at StubHub Center.
