Should the Chargers fire Norv Turner during bye week? [Poll]

Share

San Diego Coach Norv Turner was in the middle of a news conference Monday night following what had to be one of the most devastating losses of his career -- 35-24 to the Denver Broncos in a game the Chargers led, 24-0, at halftime -- when a reporter spoke up:

“There are a ton of Chargers fans out there saying this is a bye week, this is a time to make a change. What would you say to that?”

Turner said calmly, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The reporter tried to make himself more clear: “I’ve been hearing, people have been saying time to make a change of Norv Turner, and they wanted it at the end of the season and, you know, two collapses in a row right now.”

Turner again kept his composure. “Yeah, I don’t think I’m going to respond to that.”

We’re not sure Turner was the right person to ask if he should be fired, but it is a valid question.

Sure, the team is 3-3 and tied with the Broncos on top of the AFC West. But it has missed the playoffs the last two years and there is the perception among some that the Chargers have underperformed under Turner.

Plus, a loss like Monday’s is sure to leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth going into an off week, even though Turner wasn’t the one who threw four interceptions and fumbled the ball twice to help let the Broncos back into the game.

Do you think the Chargers should make a coaching change during their bye week? Vote in the poll, then leave a comment explaining why you voted the way you did.
