In the late hours after Rory McIlroy won the British Open, the golfer from Northern Ireland knew just how to celebrate.

“I’m going to enjoy it and let it sink in tonight in the company of my friends and family,” he said.

McIlroy later posted a photograph of the happy group on Twitter, writing: “Celebrating with the Claret Jug!! Thanks for all the support and well wishes this week.”

Another snapshot making the rounds appears to show him pouring Jagermeister into the famed jug with his mother watching on. He has previously tweeted his affinity for the 70-proof digestif.

One thing about McIlroy -- much of his life gets documented on social media.

Open officials posted a selfie on Twitter that McIlroy took post-victory. Yet another post from Justin Rose shows the two golfers arm-in-arm with beverages in hand. Former President Clinton also took a moment to offer his congratulations.
