The Ray Rice situation has rocked the sports world, spurring national discussion about domestic abuse.

USC Coach Steve Sarkisian said Rice’s situation has become a teachable moment.

“Unfortunately we have to learn from others’ mistakes and this Ray Rice one is a classic example of something we can learn from,” Sarkisian told The Times, adding that he has spoken to several players about Rice’s situation.

Part of his job is to develop players off the field, Sarkisian said.

“It’s one thing to coach football and win football games and all that,” he said, “it’s another to develop young men.”
