USC Coach Steve Sarkisian has applied to register his name as a trademark, CBSSports.com reports.

Trademarked names have become a trend for college football coaches; Auburn’s Gus Malzahn, Ohio State’s Urban Meyer and Clemson’s Dabo Sweeney have also done so.

Last year, while coaching at Washington, Sarkisian registered “Coach Sark” and “Bark for Sark.”

Sarkisian laughed on Wednesday when asked why he filed to register his name as a trademark, saying his agent would know the answer.

“I’m just trying to get first downs,” he said, smiling.

“I probably don’t want people using my name in vain, so I got to take care of myself.”
