Boys’ basketball: Sierra Canyon is 9-0 and rising fast

Share

After three weeks of the high school basketball season, one of the most impressive starts has been turned in by Chatsworth Sierra Canyon, which is 9-0 and starting three freshmen. The Trailblazers won the Ventura County Classic last weekend, defeating Alemany in the final.

In sophomore point guard Deveral Ramsey and 6-foot-8 freshman forward Cody Riley, Sierra Canyon has two certain future college players to build around. Whether Sierra Canyon will be good enough to end up in the Open Division at the end of the season remains to be seen.

They haven’t yet played or beaten a top 25 team, but the Trailblazers have been cool under pressure late in games, and that’s a sign of a young team that’s going to get better.

They will be tested in the Alpha League against Brentwood, Windward, Viewpoint and Campbell Hall.
