Football: Oaks Christian, St. Bonaventure put in new league

Share

Northern Area league representatives voted Thursday to move Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure into the same league for football only. St. Bonaventure’s other athletic teams will play in the Tri-Valley Athletic Association.

The new football league will be made up of St. Bonaventure, Oaks Christian, Westlake, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks and Camarillo. The league will stay together for all sports, but St. Bonaventure will leave except for football.

“That’s a great league for us,” Oaks Christian Athletic Director Jan Hethcock said.

St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian had filed a federal lawsuit against the Southern Section after an attempt to move the schools into the Parochial Area. After an arbitration ruling in favor of St. Bonaventure and Oaks Christian, the Northern Area had to meet to come up with new leagues.
