Joe Spiers’ fifth-inning home run for Canyon Springs (10-2, 4-1) pushed his consecutive-game hitting streak to 44, breaking the previous state record of 43 established by Torrance’s Jason Kendall (now with the Pittsburgh Pirates) from 1990-92. Chris Urias went two for two with a home run and won his second game of the week on the mound. Chris Rousch was two for three with a pair of runs batted in for Riverside Poly (8-4, 3-2).

Laird came within an out of a no-hitter before giving up an infield single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Jorgenson didn’t give up a hit until allowing a double to open the sixth inning. Alhambra’s only other hit was a infield single off Jorgenson to lead off the seventh inning.

Case Jongenelen had two hits and three RBIs for the Aztecs in the second game.

Alhambra, which won the Monrovia tournament earlier this season, is 9-5.

Joe Spiers tied the state record for consecutive-game hitting streak, doubling in the third inning to extend his streak to 43 games and match the record held by Jason Kendall (Torrance, 1990-92).

After Valley View took a 2-1 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second, Brad Yowell singled in the tying run for Canyon Springs (9-2, 3-1) in the top of the fifth. Trent Tulley, who went two for three, gave the Cougars the lead with an RBI single in the sixth, and Ryan Gross extended the lead to 4-2 with a seventh-inning home run.

Chris Urias (2-1) picked up the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief. Jake Taylor got the final out for the save after a Kevin Malcom home run pulled Valley View (4-8, 0-4) within a run in the bottom of the seventh.
