The Cleveland Indians did not make qualifying offers to free agents Mike Napoli and Rajai Davis, two key players in their run to the World Series.
Issuing the $17.2-million offers before Monday’s deadline would have guaranteed the team compensatory draft picks if the players sign elsewhere. The Indians said they have strong interest in re-signing Napoli, who led them with 101 RBIs, and Davis. But by not making the offers, they forfeit exclusive negotiating rights, and the players can talk with any team.
