1-A Boys : Lutheran Beats Imperial for First Title
Scott MacDonald and Darrin Bean each scored 18 points Wednesday to lead Lutheran High School to its first San Diego Section 1-A boys basketball championship with a 61-51 win over Imperial at the Sports Arena.
Imperial led 14-5 at the end of the first quarter, but the Knights went to a man-to-man defense to take control of the game.
“We kind of knew at the end of last season that we had the type of team that could win it this year,” Lutheran Coach Michael Heidtbrink said. “It’s always great to win that first one.”
Imperial’s Bruce Williams led all scorers with 22 points.
