Stars Earn $50 for Scoreless Tie With Leafs
The Minnesota North Stars received a point in the standings and $50 per man Monday night for their 0-0 tie against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Minnesota goalie Kari Takko stopped 33 shots and Toronto’s Allan Bester made 28 saves to preserve the scoreless deadlock. Minnesota players each earned a $50 bonus for the shutout.
“We all get $50; I don’t get anymore than them,” said Takko, who earned his first NHL shutout. “I didn’t want anything different in my contract; it was too risky.
“It’s the point that’s important. It gives us a little lift and lets us know we can play defense. But it doesn’t make a season.”
The tie allowed the North Stars to halt a five-game losing streak. The game featured 49 penalties totaling 137 minutes. Referee Bob Myers gave 72 of the penalty minutes to the North Stars.
