HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Host Bell-Jeff Opens Event With 82-37 Win

Bell-Jeff High coasted to an 82-37 victory over Baldwin Park on Thursday in the first round of the Bell-Jeff basketball tournament after leading, 24-0, after one quarter.

Brian Lee (17 points), Ignacio Castro (15) and Bryan Camacho (11) all scored in double figures for Bell-Jeff (7-2).

In other Bell-Jeff tournament first-round games:

North Hollywood 83, Oak Park 41--DeShawn Harvey scored 20 points to lead the Huskies (11-1). The Huskies led, 32-6, after the first quarter. Damon Ollie added 15 points and Tim O’Malley had 10.

Campbell Hall 73, Downey 62--Austin McKellar had 19 points and C. J. Tompkins came off the bench to add 17 for Campbell Hall. Alex Lopez had 14 points and 12 rebounds for Campbell Hall (5-3).

Faith Baptist 70, Pinewood 67--James DeCarriere stole the ball and scored on a layup to give Faith Baptist the lead for good with less than a minute to play.

Etienne Moore had 21 points and 27 rebounds, and Alex Estrada (17 points) and DeCarriere (11) also scored in double figures for Faith Baptist (8-3).

In Eagle Rock tournament first-round games:

Taft 79, Los Angeles CES 46--Casey Sheahan scored 27 points and had seven steals to lead Taft (8-1). Johnny Williams contributed 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks, and Miguel Carillo scored 13 points.

Eagle Rock 100, Sylmar 37--Charles Garcia (25 points) and Larry Corbi (21) combined for 46 points to lead Eagle Rock.

Roosevelt 76, Van Nuys 59--Eric Grayson had 17 points for Van Nuys.

Locke 86, Poly 69--Eddie Cardenas and Marcillino Richarte had 18 and 15 points for Poly.

In other games:

Hoover 75, Pomona 74--Gabe Alvarado’s free throw with no time remaining lifted the Tornadoes (7-3) to a first-round win in the Estancia tournament. Hoover overcame a 49-35 halftime deficit. Chad Reese had 30 points and 11 rebounds for Hoover and Dave Ulloa added 25 points.

Rio Mesa 58, Baldwin (Maui) 50--Swanson Nunnery scored 12 points to lead the Spartans (3-4) to a first-round victory in the Walter Wong (Hawaii) tournament.

Montclair Prep 83, Cantwell 42--Kris Johnson scored 17 points to lead Montclair Prep to a first-round win in the Ribet Academy tournament.

St. Genevieve 75, Marantha 68--Jeremy Iaccino scored 26 points and had eight assists as St. Genevieve (2-4) overcame a 12-point second-quarter deficit in the Ribet Academy tournament.

South Lamar 111, Canoga Park 88--Darryl Wilson of South Lamar (Ala.) (10-0) scored 57 points in the first round of the Las Vegas tournament. Chace Johnson of Canoga Park (1-10) scored 19.

Dorsey 86, Cleveland 53--Shawn Bankhead had 26 points and eight rebounds, but Dorsey pulled away in the second half of the first-round Artesia tournament game.

Chatsworth 58, Vintage 46--Brady Mertes totaled 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Dennis Byrd added 15 points as the Chancellors (8-3) won in the first round of the Chaminade tournament.

Atascadero 66, Alemany 64--The Greyhounds hit a three-point shot with two seconds left in the first round of the Atascadero tournament. Richard Dice (33 points) just missed a shot from half-court at the buzzer for Alemany (5-5).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Westlake 74, Dos Pueblos 25--Lauren Goldstine scored 27 points and teammate Marlee Organ added 20 as unbeaten Westlake (5-0) advanced to the semifinal round of the Simi Valley tournament.

In other Simi Valley tournament games:

Saugus 49, Compton 26--Nicole Hicks scored 24 points to lead Saugus in the consolation quarterfinals. Saugus (2-5) jumped to a 14-4 first-quarter lead.

Kennedy 55, Pomona 39--Charlene Ching scored 14 points and Chris Ota scored 11 to lead Kennedy (2-3) to a win in the consolation quarterfinals.

Burbank 47, St. Bonaventure 38--Danielle Pershing scored 10 points to lead Burbank in the consolation quarterfinals.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Simi Valley 1, Dana Hills 0--April Heirrity scored and the Pioneers (9-0) registered their seventh shutout in the second round of the Excalibur tournament.

In a first-round game Thursday, Simi Valley beat Villa Park, 4-0, behind two goals by freshman Monica Jerardo.

Alemany 4, Santa Clara 1--Tammey Alderman scored twice for the Indians (7-3-1) in the Hart tournament.
