Saunders Leads Chaminade in Maui

Franklin Saunders rushed for 205 yards and two touchdowns in 20 carries to lead Chaminade High to a 27-14 victory over St. Anthony on Saturday in Wailuku, on the island of Maui, Hawaii.

Saunders, considered by a preseason publication as one of the top senior running backs in the nation, scored on runs of 80 and 67 yards.

Chaminade quarterback Clint Tanner completed five of 12 passes for 50 yards, including a 12-yard toss to Adam Crecion in the first quarter to open the scoring.

Saunders’ first touchdown run and a six-yard scoring run by sophomore Jason Giovannettone gave Chaminade (1-0) a 21-0 lead in the third quarter.

Junior linebacker Dino Dinielli grabbed two of the four interceptions thrown by St. Anthony quarterback John Converse. Chaminade outgained St. Anthony, 288-136.
