Los Angeles Valley College will use $225,000 in donations to fund its writing center and replace essential science equipment damaged in the Northridge earthquake, school officials announced Monday.

The Alliance for the Advancement of Education donated $200,000 to provide additional funding for the Valley College Writing Center Project, the campus writing lab.

The gift will fund the center through June. The group has donated a total of $400,000 for the center, which employs student tutors working with computers to improve the writing skills of about 250 students each week.
