VENTURA : Dog to Survive Brutal Beating by Burglars

Share

Moxie is going to make it.

The 7-year-old dachshund underwent surgery Friday afternoon in Port Hueneme and is expected to return to its Ventura home Monday, veterinarian Nino Garrolini said.

But the dog’s left eye did have to be removed.

“She should be a perfectly normal, well-adjusted dog,” Garrolini said.

Garrolini volunteered to treat the dog after reading about its plight after burglars ransacked the home of Ed and Beth Pinsky on June 9 and savagely beat and stabbed the pooch.

Immediately after the burglary, Ed Pinsky said the family was unable to pay for surgery necessary for Moxie’s survival.

Since then, a nationwide outpouring of support and concern has swamped Garrolini’s office and the Pinsky home on Dean Drive.

Garrolini said close to $1,400 in contributions has been received on Moxie’s behalf while Beth Pinsky said she has received dozens of telephone calls from as far away as Milwaukee.

“The outpouring is amazing and a little overwhelming,” she said. “People all over the United States know about this, we have had a ton of media calls. But I do wonder if this had happened to a child, would we see the same outpouring?”

Thieves stole about $5,000 worth of electronic equipment, cash and jewelry during the burglary.

Thirteen-year-old Leah Pinsky discovered the burglary when she came home that afternoon to blood-spattered walls and carpet.

“We are very shaken,” she said. “There’s a certain sense of having been violated that will take a long time to get over.”

Ventura Police officers said they are continuing their investigation but have few leads and no suspects.
