MTA Funds

Re “Subway Money: Fat Era Ends, and L.A.’s Got to Go to Work,” editorial, Sept. 15:

As an MTA director, I agree with the editorial. However, please remember that this writer, as well as former MTA CEO Franklin White, stated two years ago that, while the Pasadena line was to be built next, funding had not yet been identified. I voted against the line for this reason.

Presently we are cutting out stations and making other reductions to lower costs. The Pasadena line will not be of the same quality as the Long Beach line.

It’s sad to say, but most MTA decisions are political. Some of us try to make decisions for the whole county, not just our turf.
