Kansas Assumes Top Spot in Poll
Even without its No. 1 player, Kansas is the No. 1 team.
When Jacque Vaughn, the senior point guard and preseason All-American, does get back, the Jayhawks could hardly do much better. They took over the top spot in this week’s Associated Press poll, despite a sluggish 79-71 victory over San Diego on Sunday.
Kansas (5-0), which rolled past LSU, California and Virginia to win the Maui Classic last week, received 58 first-place votes and 1,759 points from the 71-member media panel.
It’s the fifth year in a row in which the Jayhawks have been ranked No. 1 at some point.
