O.C.-Based No Doubt and Korn Fall Short

Orange County bands No Doubt and Korn lost in the three categories they were nominated for Grammys in this year, although another with county ties, Rage Against the Machine, won for best metal performance.

Anaheim’s No Doubt came up short in its two categories--new artist and rock album--but was among the acts showcased during Wednesday night’s Grammy telecast. Since its autumn 1995 release, the group’s breakthrough album “Tragic Kingdom” has sold almost 6 million copies and spent nine weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s national album charts. No Doubt will become the first county band to headline a local arena or amphitheater when it plays May 31 at the Pond in Anaheim.

Korn’s loss to Rage Against the Machine was a match between bands with county connections. Korn’s members grew up in Bakersfield but moved to Huntington Beach several years ago. Rage singer Zack de la Rocha and bassist Tim Bob grew up in Orange County but left for Los Angeles before Rage emerged as a hit band in 1993.
