Rapper Recuperating: Controversial Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard--who interrupted this year’s Grammy ceremonies to protest his group’s loss in an earlier category--ignored medical advice and walked out of a Brooklyn hospital early Wednesday after being shot Tuesday during an apparent robbery. The rapper, whose real name is Russell Jones, was said to be visiting relatives in Brooklyn when two male armed robbers broke into the apartment, demanding jewelry and money. The rapper was shot in the back, with the bullet exiting through his arm; both wounds were deemed superficial. Police said there was no indication that the rapper knew his attackers. ODB is not expected to miss any live dates, including July 28 and 29 shows scheduled at the Key Club in West Hollywood.

Who’s on First?: Starting July 14, ABC will rearrange its schedule in preparation for the new fall season that begins in September. Among the initial changes: “Home Improvement” will move to its new Tuesday 8 p.m. time period, followed by “Soul Man” at 8:30 p.m. (with “Spin City” to begin airing Tuesday nights at 9 the following week), and “Dharma & Greg will slide into Wednesdays at 8 p.m., followed by “Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place” at 8:30 p.m. More changes will come in early August, when “America’s Funniest Home Videos” goes to Saturdays at 8 p.m., and “The Practice” moves to Sundays at 10 p.m. Also, beginning Aug. 6, the canceled drama series “Push” will air on Thursdays at 8 p.m. for five weeks.

Elsewhere on ABC: “Maximum Bob,” a one-hour drama based on the Elmore Leonard novel of the same name, will premiere Aug. 4 as a summer series, temporarily taking over “NYPD Blue’s” Tuesday, 10 p.m. time slot. Beau Bridges stars as a power-hungry Florida judge.

The “City of Angels” soundtrack, featuring hit singles by Alanis Morissette and the Goo Goo Dolls, remains the nation’s top-selling album after selling nearly 146,000 copies last week. Meanwhile, the “Armageddon” soundtrack, which includes four Aerosmith songs, sold about 112,000 copies to debut at No. 4 behind Master P’s “MP Da Last Don” and Brandy’s “Never Say Never.” . . . “Dateline NBC” co-anchor Jane Pauley has signed a contract extension designed to keep her on the show well into the next century. The deal will bring her a reported $5.5 million annually. NBC recently made a similar agreement with Pauley’s co-anchor, Stone Phillips. NBC is adding a fifth weekly night of “Dateline NBC” in the fall. . . . Sheryl Crow’s third album, “Riverwide,” is due in stores on Sept. 15. The first single, “My Favorite Mistake,” will be released to radio on Aug. 5.
