Zodiac’s Vasquez Scores Deciding Goal in Shootout

Jose Vasquez scored the decisive goal in a shootout to help the Zodiac defeat San Francisco, 4-3, in an A-League soccer game Friday at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Following a scoreless overtime, Vasquez, from Santa Ana, scored on the Zodiac’s sixth attempt in the shootout. Ken Hesse and Rivers Guthrie also scored in the shootout for the Zodiac (8-5).

Steven Patterson scored two goals in regulation for the Zodiac, which took a 3-2 lead in the 76th minute on Gustavo Leal’s seventh goal.

But San Francisco (3-9), which outshot the Zodiac, 16-8, sent the game into overtime when Todd Duncan scored off Geoff Huber’s assist in the 84th minute.

Orange County’s next game is June 26 at El Paso, Texas. Its next home game is July 1 against Vancouver.
