El Toro Gets First-Round Win in Arizona

Chris Parish had 19 points and seven rebounds to help El Toro to a 56-44 victory over Paradise Valley (Ariz.) in the first round of the Bullhead City tournament Monday.

Matt Green had 18 points and 13 rebounds and Ashkan Nazeri made nine of 10 free throws and scored 13 points for El Toro (11-0), which is ranked third in the county and plays Pleasant Grove (Utah) today.

In the Downey Calvary Chapel tournament:

Western Christian 61, Brethren Christian 37--Brett Cooley had 14 points and nine rebounds for Brethren Christian (1-5) in the pool-play game.

In the Orangewood Academy tournament:

Orangewood 64, Escondido Academy 61--Center Mike Mitchell scored 23 points for Orangewood (5-3) in the pool-play game.

In the San Bernardino Kiwanis tournament:

Garden Grove 68, Apple Valley 56--Garden Grove’s Steve Sosa made 11 of 12 free throws and finished with 17 points. Andy Scimeca had 17 points and five steals for the Argonauts (5-2).

In nonleague games:

Anaheim 75, Konawaena (Hawaii) 33--Quinn Hawking scored 31 points, including 13 in the third quarter, for the host Colonists (6-7).

Playa del Rey St. Bernard 52, Pacifica 51--Kelly Gurnea had 18 points and David Read had 16 for visiting Pacifica (4-5), which lost when St. Bernard made a three-point basket at the buzzer.
