Off-duty police officer fatally shoots armed suspect in S. Pasadena

An armed suspect was shot and killed early Sunday by an off-duty police officer in South Pasadena, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of Arroyo Verde Road when the suspect confronted the officer, who works for Cal State Los Angeles police, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials.

The wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The off-duty officer suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, officials said.

A handgun was recovered and the investigation into the incident is continuing, officials said.
