Montee Ball leaves Wisconsin-UTEP game with head injury
Wisconsin running back Montee Ball suffered a head injury Saturday against Texas-El Paso and was taken out of the game, according to the official Twitter account of the Badgers.
Ball scored on a one-yard run with 14 minutes, 13 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but took a shot to the head on the play. After being examined by team medical personnel, he was ruled out for the rest of the game.
This has been a rough season for Ball, a 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist. Actually, it got rough even before the season.
Ball sustained a concussion this summer when he was allegedly attacked by several men on a street in Madison in the early morning hours of Aug. 1.
On Saturday, Ball had 40 yards and the touchdown in nine carries before apparently suffering another head injury. On his third carry of the game, he had his streak of consecutive carries without a fumble snapped at 654.
Wisconsin had moved the ball into UTEP territory on its opening drive when Ball coughed up the ball after a hit by Miners’ defensive back Richard Spencer, a senior from Moreno Valley Rancho Verde High.
Ball has gained 360 yards rushing this season.
Wisconsin leads UTEP 23-16 heading into fourth quarter.
