USC football: Josh Shaw on track to start at cornerback

Josh Shaw is on the move again.

The junior is on track to start at cornerback for USC in Saturday’s Pac-12 Conference game against Utah at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Shaw started the opener against Hawaii at safety, the next four games at cornerback and the last two at safety.

“We’ve really struggled at the cornerback position,” USC interim Coach Ed Orgeron said Wednesday. “When he was there, we weren’t struggling, so we feel with some offenses he may have to play cornerback, some he may have to play safety.

“It all depends. It’s a week-to-week thing.”

Shaw, who transferred to USC from Florida after the 2011 season, will do anything necessary to help the team, but he acknowledged that finding a rhythm at either position has been difficult.

“Those types of things happen sometimes in football,” he said. “So I’ve just got to play corner. That’s just what I’ve got to do.”
