USA Diving announced Thursday that six cities, including Riverside, Calif., are under consideration to host the Olympic diving trials for the 2016 Summer Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro.

Also under consideration are Atlanta, Greensboro, N.C., Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Tucson, Ariz.

Riverside opened a new aquatics center at Riverside City College in 2011.

“We are thrilled to see so many incredible cities express an interest in hosting our Olympic trials. The trials are such a special event for us, and we are looking forward to seeing what these cities can offer as we aim to make the 2016 trials our best yet,” USA Diving President and CEO Linda Paul said.

A committee of USA Diving staff and board members will be visiting each of the six cities and will further evaluate the cities’ bid proposals before selecting finalists Oct. 21. The evaluation process will continue through the end of the year.
