Usain Bolt backs off retirement talk
Not so fast.
It seems that Usain Bolt -- who can usually be seen sprinting ahead at blurry speeds -- is now backtracking on his plans to retire after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
Bolt previously vowed to quit running after Rio, but during a stop on his current book tour, he acknowledged reconsidering.
“I think my fans especially have really voiced their concern about me retiring,” Bolt was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. “They think I should carry on, and so do my sponsors.”
The 27-year-old runner reportedly made the comments in London, which will host the world track-and-field championships in 2017.
“I have discussed it with my coach, and he says it is possible,” Bolt said. “We will see what happens, but it’s in the cards that I will extend it by one more year.”
His remarkable career includes a quadruple triple, with victories in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter relays at two Olympics and two world championships.
