MIAMI -- Sure, there’s a Game 7 to be played tonight and a chance for Miami to repeat as NBA champions and such and such.

But will LeBron James wear his headband for the season finale against San Antonio?

It was knocked off his head accidentally by Tim Duncan while James dunked an offensive rebound in the fourth quarter of Game 6. Make that the fourth quarter of Game 6 where James scored 16 points and the Heat launched an improbable comeback punctuated by Ray Allen’s overtime-forcing three-pointer with 5.2 seconds left before winning in overtime, 103-100.

Never mind all that. The first two post-game questions for James from reporters were about the headband. Seriously.

So maybe James should ditch it for Game 7. What does it really do besides keep sweat out of his eyes? The headband’s absence kept alive the Heat’s title hopes ... metaphorically speaking, anyway.

James seemed a little leery of going without his longtime companion. He said he hadn’t played without it since exhibition play his rookie season. It appears the headband will be back tonight.

“I’ll probably start off with it,” James said. “A little superstitious. If it gets knocked off, then me and him will have a discussion if he will return.”

James is averaging 23.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 7.5 assists in the Finals.

He’ll either be 2-2 in Finals rounds or 1-3 after tonight. He said he was ready for his first Finals Game 7.

“I understand the moment for me,” James said.
